Coffee in the park
It was a lovely Delhi wintery evening .Just perfect for an outing with your beloved.what better place then one of the sprawling greens in Delhi. We decided on Nehru Park. Such a vast land with acres of carpeteded grass. Combined with trees hundreds of years old.witnesses to glory of this park .besides greens, lots of area is naturally la scaped with Rocks & dusty tracks. Paradise indeed.
Just entering this park, takes me down the memory lane. It makes the child in me come out & dance. It sometime s makes me do things which other people would think crazy. One such child like advey took me up the grand tree. I am fascinated by trees and cannot stop myself climbing up one. But usually I cannot make much progress and retreat with me & my childish whims in tow.
This time however some divine force guided me & of course the child to the top of the tree.To my surprise I was on top of the world.with the world beneath me I felt like on cloud nine. I waved to my dear wife. Infact teasing her for my daring achievement. She was unamused though and continued reading her book.
My sense of conquering a tough mountain peak was short lived. I forgot to mention that as climbing up the tree gives me immense pleasure the return journey gives me shivers. In my excitement of climbing I just tend to conveniently bypass my weakness for climbing down.
But here I was, on top of the world and no way to come Down . On cloud nine but no way to return to the ground. Looking down at my spouse was not much help .As if she knew it was coming and continued engrossed in her lame book.
Suddenly a shrieky voice broke the silence of the woods. Though nothing sweet about the voice but it’s timing made it the most enchanting voice I had heard in recent times. It was the good old Anna coffee seller. The ones you must have seen carrying a flask of coffee in almost every garden in the city.
Caafee.caafee. he screamed. My wife shooed him away. I screamed fro y cloud 9. Hello there .Help Me. He was least interested. Afterall he can sell a few more cups of coffee instead of wasting time on saving an adventurous tree climber. He started to move away.
I want to have coffee. I will buy 2 cups. Throw in a pack of chips too I told him hurriedly. Now I was talking sense . Ok.sir come & have it & he started to pour the coffee from his flask.
No ,you come up here .I was almost pleading.
You want to have it up there on the tree?he asked amusingly
No No .Get me down and then I will have the coffee .
He smiled and kept his wares on the ground. He was up on the tree in a jiffy. He held my hand and guided me down the tree like a guardian angel. The return journey was quite shaky and I clutched on this coffee man as if my life depended on him.finally reached the ground level and heaved a sigh of relief.
It felt nice to be grounded.
I thanked him for his rescue operation & paid for his services.
I Felt like I just bought myself a new life for two cups of coffee God bless him.
Though not much time has passed to that incident, I still feel an urge to climb on a tree but to tell you frankly I hated that coffee so I better remain grounded or wait till the coffee is to my taste.
